JSC Acoustics and Noise Control Laboratory (ANCL)

WALL & ROOF CONSTRUCTION: The room´s walls and roof are Acoustic Systems Type 2, four-inch (4") thick panels. Panels are fabricated with 16 gauge galvanized-bonderized, cold-rolled steel outer surface and 22 gauge perforated, galvanized-bonderized, cold-rolled steel inner surface. Perforations are 3/32" diameter holes on 3/16" staggered centers providing a 23% open area. The panels are filled with three inches (3") of acoustic insulating material and a one-inch (1") gypsum board barrier. The acoustic fill is inert and mildew and vermin resistant. Thermal conductivity does not exceed K=0.240. All internal framing members are formed 16 gauge, galvanized-bonderized, cold-rolled steel and are spaced at a maximum of 24". All welds are spaced at 4" to 6" intervals and ground smooth on all exposed surfaces.

FLOOR: The acoustic floor is four inches (4") thick. The floor is sealed with a 16 gauge, galvanized-bonderized, cold-rolled steel bottom skin and is fully insulated. The perimeters are constructed from a formed 11 gauge steel channel. Steel internal reinforcement members are spaced on 12" centers. The walking surface is 11-gauge steel and is covered with 1/8" thick industrial grade vinyl floor tile. The floor is mounted on vibration isolation rails to reduce structurally transmitted vibration that can negatively affect acoustic performance. The rails are designed with molded elastomer (50 durometer rubber) isolators with a natural frequency of 15 Hertz

DOORS: The two inch (2") thick, 36" x 74" clear opening STC-40+ door is fabricated with 16 gauge, galvanized-bonderized, cold-rolled steel solid face sheets. The door is pre-hung, left-hinged and swings out with a ½" threshold. Acoustical seals consist of a ¾" magnetic bellows and neoprene compression gasket along the jamb and header and an adjustable neoprene compression gasket along the threshold.

WINDOWS: The window is a 24" x 36", double glazed, ¼" x ¼" laminated safety glass mounted in tight sealing with neoprene gaskets. Desiccant material is installed between the windowpanes to prevent condensation. The double glazed safety glass weighs at least 6.5 pounds per square foot.

LIGHTING: Enclosure lighting consists of two (2), incandescent, dual bulb fixtures with glass covers, recessed in the ceiling.

HVAC: The system provides an acoustically treated 300 CFM or 600 CFM or 900 CFM ventilation system for circulating room air into the enclosure.
