Program Support

The Habitability and Environmental Factors Division provides expertise in human factors and habitability to NASA programs such as the Space Shuttle Transportation System, the International Space Station, and future exploration programs. Experts assist these programs by providing design standards and recommendations so that current flight conditions can be more efficient, safe, and productive. They focus on improving the human interface of operational controls and displays as well as the living and working conditions in Space. The knowledge that HEFD has acquired through its support of space flight programs is compiled into publicly accessible human-systems design standards and handbooks.
